HISTORY DETECTIVES

There are many mysteries that have remained unsolved for hundreds of years. The programs begin with a background about the mystery. Throughout the programs, new discoveries are made! In the end, we will come to our own conclusions on what we think happened. To register contact Museum Educator, Rachel Yoder at 215-679-3103 or ryoder@schwenkfelder.com

The Roots of Mermaids/Mermen in Fraktur Art
Wednesday, September 22, 4:30 - 6:30 pm
For children ages 10 - 14 years old
Cost/program: $7 per child

The Wunderfisch is a motif that occurs in Mennonite and Schwenkfelder fraktur of the late 1700s and early 1800s. But why? Children will develop their own hypotheses and theories on why the Pennsylvania Dutch used this motif in their artwork and then create their own Pennsylvania Dutch fraktur inspired mermaids/mermen.
