Michael Hughes, is a Board Certified Ocularist, who began working in prosthetics in 1982, is a native of Pennsylvania. He attended Bucknell University in Lewisburg with the Pennsylvania Governors School for the Arts. He continued his education at Pennsylvania State University majoring in fine arts. Michael Hughes obtained a certificate in maxillofacial prosthetics technology from the Veterans Administration Medial Center in Wilmington, Delaware (in conjunction with Temple University). Michael Hughes served with the Veterans Administration in St. Louis and Washington, DC, as Chief of the Artificial Eye and Restorations Clinic and held a position with LeGrand Associates in Philadelphia before settling into the Washington, D.C. area. Michael Hughes primary office is in Vienna, Virginia. He is the principle ocularist at the University of Virginia and maintains offices in Richmond and Roanoke, Virginia. |

Michael Hughes is currently the Senior Editor of the Journal of Ophthalmic Prosthetics, the official Journal of the American Society of Ocularist, and has been on the Editorial Board for over twelve years. He has contributed a significant number of articles to various medical journals, and has collaborated with numerous Ophthalmologists and Physicians, including Nobel Lauret, Dr. Julius Axelrod. He has recently revised and published the book: A Singular View, the Art of Seeing with One Eye. | |
